Intro to the Wilderness Summer
Thanks to the continued partnership with the US Forest Service and the Bus for Outdoor Access and Teaching The next intro to the Wilderness course is coming to Ely on September 4th-8th. In this course participants will get to experience a leave no trace and wilderness first aid course while getting to experience popular Northern Minnesota recreation.
Our basecamp will be at the South Kawishiwi River Campground. We hope the Iron Range Community will continue to be welcoming as we canoe, bike and explore Ely.
Intro to the Wilderness Winter 2023
Our mission for the Intro to the Wilderness program is to educate underrepresented groups, with limited access to the outdoors. By coordinating with local businesses we create recreational experiences in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and surrounding Superior National, while educating participants on Leave No Trace ethics and the importance of nature for Minnesota’s Economy
Thanks to out sponsors and donators, Growing Futures and our participants have completed their first LNT course.
Outdoor Afro reached out to their network to find a wonderful group of people to learn with us.
The Bus For Outdoor Access and Teaching (BOAT) transported our participants from the Twin Cities to Ely. while providing meal planning and organization
The Iron Range Partnership for Sustainability raised $12oo for food.
The US Forest Service provide housing at their bunkhouse and staff that helped us organize and teach.
Friends of the Boundary Waters rented Wintergreen Warm layers and windbreakers for each of our participants.
Wintergreen Dogsled Longe let us tour their amazing grounds and run their incredible dog teams,
Arrowhead Outdoors donate the time of two extremely knowledgable guides to lead our group ice fishing.
Through a Go Fund Me Campaign members of the Ely community raised $1400 for planning and transportation.
